Décor of Bathroom Vanities
If one is
fortunate enough to be able to replace or
install a bathroom vanity, making a few
decisions beforehand could save time, energy,
and possibly regret!
First,
decide who will use the bathroom, and if more
than one person will be there at the same time.
In a master bath of two people, or a children’s
bathroom, a vanity with two sinks is very
convenient! For a guest bath or powder room, a
single sink vanity is adequate.
There is a wealth of vanity storage options;
some have many small or shallow drawers, some
have a few deep ones, and others have one large
space. Keep in mind those deeper drawers,
although fewer, are more useful. There is no
sense having drawers that are too shallow for
bottles, dryers, or related bathroom needs.
Knowing what the users want to have at their
fingertips is a good way to narrow down vanity
styles.
The general décor of the bathroom usually
establishes vanity wood finish and countertop.
Formal baths may use darker woods and marble,
while a more modern bath may utilize a white
vanity with speckled Formica. Numerous woods
accommodate everyone’s taste, and the choices of
man-made or natural counter surfaces offer a
vast range of color and costs. (Remember that if
hair coloring is used in the bathroom, a drop of
any dye, even temporary color, can leave a
permanent mark on wood.)
Vanity buyers have other choices to make, such
as the shape, material and color of the sink
bowl; most usually opt to have the color match
the commode. A buyer can also choose plumbing
fixtures to blend in with the vanity countertop
and to match the vanity‘s handle hardware. (For
example, the vanity could be maple wood, with a
beige counter, brass plumbing fixtures, and
brass pull-knobs.) Most bathroom suppliers carry
all of these components, and a sales
professional can easily guide a buyer to the
most popular combinations. They can also suggest
mirrors and lighting for above the vanity as
well.
The sales consultant can assist with custom
requests, such as a vanity above the standard
height (which is appreciated by taller users),
extra counter space for a make-up area, and many
other options.
Since a vanity has a fairly long life span, it’s
a good idea to consider needs and shop around;
user-friendly vanities can be found in almost
every size and price range!
