Tips For Installing a New Bathroom Vanity
If you think
you have the time and patience to install your
own bathroom vanity and countertop it can be
done with just a little work on your part.
If
you’ve been contemplating updating your home
with new cosmetics and fixtures, you might find
the task seems daunting. However, it does not
have to be. There are many sources to finding
information on how to do projects yourself,
including installing a new bathroom vanity and
countertop.
Once you’ve made the decision to install a new
bathroom vanity and countertop, you will want to
find one that suits your needs, as well as the
décor you have chosen. Before you choose one,
you’ll want to first measure the old one and if
you plan to go with a larger vanity, measure to
make sure there will be room enough for it. With
your measurements in hand, you can go to the
home improvement store to find one. At many home
improvement stores, you may be able to take a
class on how to install a new vanity and if not,
they should have a book available that will walk
you through step-by-step.
Once you’ve chosen the bathroom vanity and
countertop, you’ll want to remove the old one
from your bathroom. If the walls need to be
repaired, make sure you do this before you
install the new vanity. Bring the bathroom
vanity into the bathroom and if there are any
written instructions that come with it, now is
the time to go over them. Many of them are
standard, however, if you have purchased a
vanity that is unique or has any special
features, the instructions may be different.
Line up the vanity along the wall where it will
be placed and you’ll want to make sure the water
lines match-up and keep in mind that you may
have to cut holes in the back of your new vanity
to run the lines through.
When you’ve gotten the water lines matched up,
you’ll want to secure the vanity to the wall.
However, make sure the bathroom vanity is level
first. Using shims is common in leveling
vanities and you may have to use them. Once the
vanity is level, secure it to the wall by
following the enclosed instructions. If the
countertop and vanity has come already
assembled, you’ll simply need to hook up the
waterlines and drain. If not, follow the
instructions on fitting the countertop and sink
onto the vanity. Again, take advantage of the
home improvement books that are on the market to
assist you.
The main thing to remember when installing a new
bathroom vanity and countertop is that it does
not have to be difficult. There are numerous
home improvement books, classes, and websites
that will offer you assistance. All you have to
do is be aware of them and soak up the
information.
